"The indifference of the majority of our people towards our local history will inevitably be replaced in time by the deep and wide-spread interest to which its rich and varied character entitles it. In the meantime, however, material of the highest historic value is being lost, and it should be a pleasant duty for us to preserve such parts of it as may add to the glory of our people, or the knowledge of our race." — Dr. W. F. Ganong.

Connell House, pictured above, originally the residence of the Hon. Charles Connell, is the permanent home of the Carleton County Historical Society.

Founded in 1960 by a small group of dedicated individuals, the Society's original objective was to acquire the old Carleton County Court House, long used as a stable, and accurately restore the building to its original condition; to research and document local history; to acquire and preserve historical documents and artefacts relating to the County, and by example and education, inspire others to emulate them.

N.B. Heritage Week 2012

The theme for New Brunswick Heritage Week 2012 is celebrating War and Peace in New Brunswick in recognition of Canada's bicentennial of the War of 1812. The Carleton County Historical Society invites everyone to explore Carleton County's military heritage at Connell House starting Tuesday February 14th through to Friday February 17th from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The exhibit at Connell House contains artifacts such as military uniforms, badges, swords, guns, flags, and historical photos taken in Woodstock of local service men during the second Boer War, WWI & WWII.

Also, an educational DVD will be available for the public to watch regarding WWI and WWII. To our delight, Carleton County's Military Expert Aaron Bouma will be on hand Wednesday, Feb. 15th from 3:00 pm to 4:30pm and Thursday, Feb 16th from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm to answer all your questions.

We would like to thank the Woodstock Legion for providing some of the artifacts on display, and we would like to thank volunteer Aaron Bouma for all of his help and expertise.
